This book warmed the cockles of my heart. There, I said it. Never thought I would use that cheesy phrase in my life, for a book review at that. But I cannot think of anything better to say, so shoot me. However, I would like to get a hug from author Kai Cheng Thom (and a few other authors) for writing this fabulous memoir before I die. If she ever ends up reading this, I sense her first thought would probably be “NO fucking way, I’ll stab you in the eye if you try hugging me, you weird stranger”. Oh well…

Dakhinpur is the kind of town that's so prosaic that only those who've ever been there know of it. But it's home to four fiercely different characters, who are united by their childhood friendship and loyalty to each other. "Bad Town Kids" is all about growing up, accepting one's individuality and always having your friend's back. Get a copy if you haven't read it yet.

Friend & fellow book/film enthusiast @munishrathore had introduced me to the novel "The Carpet Weaver" in 2019. Impulsive book buyer that I am, an order was placed the same day. This Afghan Queer love story by Nemat Sadat pulled me in immediately too. So when I decided to seek an author interview, it seemed just right to ask Munish if he would like to helm it. Was just telling a friend about how I once tripped on a loose slab covering a storm-drain and my phone fell in. This picture was minutes after that. The onlookers were very amused to see me (evidently a tourist to them) try and retrieve my phone from the gutter water. Talk about little travel disasters. #throwback #travelmemories #travelgram

Book number 55 for the year - Pashmina by Nidhi Chanani. This graphic novel is a sweet tale about discovering one's roots. The illustrations are adorable and I loved how there would be sudden burst of colours in some panels, while most part of it was monochromatic. Priyanka Das, the American-Indian protagonist discovers a magical shawl that transports her to historical places in India. So she decides to take a trip to India to find out tje truth behind her mystical pashmina shawl. While I wasn't a fan of the sentimental religious themes in the book, it makes for a breezy read. (On the sides are just some cute elephants I drew long back)
