HBO has finally dropped the first teaser for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and even in just two minutes, it already feels like a more intimate, slightly more faithful return to the world of Hogwarts.

The Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone teaser opens not with magic, but with misery. Aunt Petunia is front and centre, delivering a cold, cutting line.

“I told you… You are a normal boy and you’re going to start acting like one.”

It’s followed by a moment that longtime readers will instantly recognize: Petunia roughly hacking away at Harry’s unruly hair as punishment. It’s a small, grounded scene, but one that immediately establishes the Dursleys’ cruelty in a way the films largely softened or skipped.

Viewers also get a glimpse of Dudley bullying Harry Potter at school, another addition that leans into Harry’s lonely, neglected childhood before the magic ever arrives. And then, of course, comes the turning point: the Hogwarts letter. That iconic envelope doesn’t just arrive, it changes everything, and the teaser lets that moment breathe.

We then see Hagrid introduce Harry to the world of magic, and soon the boy is heading to the station, luggage in tow, with Hedwig, a quiet but emotional transition from the cupboard under the stairs to the edge of something extraordinary. And of course, some of the major iconic characters from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone also make fleeting appearances in the trailer, from Hagrid, to Professor Dumbledore.

Harry Potter gets his Hogwarts Letter

One of the teaser’s most memorable touches comes aboard the train. Instead of a traditional introduction, Ron Weasley is first seen entirely through Harry’s perspective. Sitting by the window, the bespectacled Harry watches a red-haired boy being hugged tightly by his mother. We don’t even see Ron’s face clearly at first, just the warmth of that moment. It’s simple, but it lands. Because for Harry, this isn’t just a random scene, it’s something he’s never had. That contrast adds a soft emotional weight to what is otherwise a very “cute” introduction.

Casting-wise, HBO seems to have nailed the tone. Dominic McLaughlin as Harry already looks the part, he is wide-eyed, vulnerable, and quietly observant. Arabella Stanton’s Hermione and Alastair Stout’s Ron round out the trio.

The teaser ends with a fun moment, where an excited Ron looks at his co-passenger and asks “are you really Harry Potter?!”. And thus begins their legendary friendship and adventures!

The series is set to stream Christmas 2026, so this year! Watch the teaser below.
