The Mighty Nein’s Nott the Brave is little, shifty, has an alcohol problem, but is also living up to her name by showing exemplary courage even when it’s strictly optional: like volunteering to recce a booby-trapped tunnel laden with skeletons of soldiers.

Titled “Many Gifts”, episode 6 opens with a killer sequence, giving Yasha a legendary (and crazily violent) entry scene, where she brutally massacres dozens of soldiers standing guard to a town. Just the mere sight of her has some shitting their pants, with some calling her the ‘orphanmaker’. Now, Yasha isn’t part of the Mighty Nein yet, but turns out, she is heading to the same place as the others, so it seems their paths are about to cross soon.

Meanwhile, Molly leads the gang to meet a mysterious man known simply as the “Gentleman” to procure a new protective amulet for Caleb, which would help everyone remain safe from prying eyes. If you remember, Episode 5 of ‘The Mighty Nein’ ended with Caleb torching Owelia, the Volstrucker, to death, but not before she destroyed his amulet. Nott is increasingly worried about Caleb, while Beau remains wary of his intentions.

Nott the Brave in Mighty Nein

The Gentleman tasks the Mighty Nein to bring him a prized compass from some hidden ruins uncovered in Zadash in exchange of an amulet. These ruins are heavily guarded, laden with death traps, and supposedly contain great treasure belonging to a mythical pirate called Nydas. Nobody is said to have made it alive from the path to Nydas’ treasure, but well, our powerful set of heroes might just get it.

There is a hilarious squabble between everybody over whether they should be risking their lives for just an amulet, but everybody is convinced when they realize they can steal other treasure too. If they make it out alive that is. But given that this is just episode six of the animated series, at least as viewers we know the characters are going to be fine. However, will they recover any treasure? That’s the main mystery of this edition.

Mighty Nein Episode 6

Even though their treasure-hunt quest, a strong tension remains between Caleb and Beau, while the cheery Jester tries to lighten things up with jokes and Molly tries to plays peacemaker. Fjord remains the least interested in the group’s chatter, and is instead steered into his own personal mission by a mysterious voice guiding his actions.

Regardless of the inter-personal tensions between the members, all of them put in some incredible teamwork to navigate the pirate’s rigged lair. The outing also gives them opportunities to bond and grow some trust in each other. Nott’s undying attachment and loyalty to Caleb is endearing, and it seems Beau might finally be warming up to him too. While she works covertly to expose Trent Ikithon with her Cobalt Soul connection, she is opening up to the idea of becoming friends with her new gang.

This Mighty Nein episode also shifts some attention back to antagonist Trent Ikithon, the stolen beacon and the political drama, intrigue surrounding it. The Dwendalian Empire and Kryn dynasty are no longer on the brink of war, but have started launching full fledged attacks on each other. The last few minutes of the chapter pack in an intense, gruesome skirmish between the two sides, while a horrified Essek realizes just how terribly he has betrayed his own people.

Overall, this is a fast-moving, entertaining edition, and keeps viewers hooked until the last minute.
