Caffeine Diaries – Week 2 Without Coffee (Is Surprisingly… Fine?)
“Would you like some coffee?”
I was meeting a friend after a few months and of-course that’s the first thing she asked me.
Yes, she doesn’t read my blog, or read anything for that matter. So it’s all right. That was earlier in the week, Tuesday to be exact. And the offer wasn’t tempting at all. In fact, week 3 has been the easiest without coffee, also because most of it was spent being miserable courtesy of a visit from Aunt Flo.
So, I am once again quite content to mark that today – 23rd August 2026 – marks day 22 of not having a single cup of coffee. The past week was spent in the company of just one cup of tea before 4 pm. Maybe there is no point in doing a ‘Caffeine Diaries’ Part 4, because it’s already sounding like a very successful break-up.
Seriously, today, Sunday, my dad offered to take Mom and me to a nice cafe by the beach for coffee, and he was quite surprised that I turned down the offer. Yeah, he doesn’t read my blog either. So I told him about this stupid ‘no coffee’ thing I am doing… only today. He tried convincing me to come along either way, but then I hadn’t written anything for the day and was planning on uploading a little book recommendation on the podcast and write a fresh graphic novel review. And obviously this ‘Caffeine Diaries’ follow up too.
At the time of writing this, it was still the 23rd; by the time I hit publish, it was 12 am the next day. So even though fixing my sleep was a big reason to give up coffee and keep track through ‘Caffeine Diaries’ (essentially forcing myself to feel more accountable after declaring it in public), obviously my sleeping pattern hasn’t changed. And my sleep quality continues to be shitty AF.
That’s not to say I’ve stopped thinking about coffee completely. For instance, I’ve already been thinking that, since it’s been pretty easy to get rid of the ‘coffee dependence’ I thought I had, I’ll probably start ordering cold coffees when I go out to meet friends. You know, make it an occasional indulgence reserved for the rare times I actually step out and socialize.
And believe me, I’m such an introvert that I rarely step out of the house socially (traveling is an entirely different matter though). Meeting a friend this Tuesday was actually the first time I’d gone out to meet someone since I went and saw the ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ movie with a cousin in theaters. That was July 30th. There’s also the fact that it’s the monsoon season, so I don’t want to get stuck in the rain, more reasons to avoid stepping out.
Anyway, I won’t bore you any further, because I really don’t have much to say this time on caffeine diaries. I might just be over coffee completely. Although, if I don’t touch coffee next week, it’ll be the first time since 2012 that I’ve gone an entire month without what used to be my favorite daily beverage.
Goodnight, take care, and if you want, let’s interact in the comments. I’m not a total asocial nutcase and do reply to them.
Sometimes.
If you’re interested in whether I am able to keep away from coffee the next week too, follow ‘Caffeine Diaries’, I’ve created a tag and you can bookmark it.
