The ‘Gen V’ season 2 finale is here, but fans will have to watch The Boys Season 6 to see how the story really ends, as things wrap up on a cliffhanger that sends Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and her friends straight into Homelander’s path… something the show had been hinting at all season long.

Quick Recap of Gen V Season 2 Episode 7

Marie and Cate (Maddie Phillips) return to Godolkin University to take down the sinister dean, Cypher (Hamish Linklater). When Jordan (London Thor/Derek Li), Emma (Lizze Broadway), and Sam (Asa Germann) realize they’ve gone missing, and Annabeth (Keeya King) claims she saw a blood-soaked vision of Marie dying, they all rush back to campus too.

Marie finally tracks down the man inside the hyperbaric pod, believing he’s the real Godolkin who can stop Cypher, and heals him. But when the burned, frail man (Ethan Slater) transforms back to life, a shocking twist reveals the truth, he is Cypher. The “dean” (the one played by Hamish Linklater) everyone knew was merely a regular man whose body Godolkin had possessed all along. Marie’s training? Just part of his manipulative plan to get her to restore his body.

Titled ‘Trojan‘, the Gen V episode eight, the season finale opens with a flashback to 1967, revealing what really happened to Godolkin during the fire that was supposed to kill him. Earlier in Episode 1, we only saw fragments of that event, scientists injecting themselves with a light blue liquid, likely an early version of Compound V, mutating into monsters, and triggering a catastrophic blaze that left Godolkin seemingly dead.

In the present timeline, Godolkin (Ethan Slater) is thrilled to be back in his body and continues to conspire with Sister Sage (Susan Heyward), although their exact plan isn’t revealed. But it doesn’t matter, since power-hungry Godolkin improvises a new plan, which includes formulating a new class to ‘cull’ the weak superheroes in the university.

Meanwhile, Marie and her friends gather around Doug, the man they once thought was Cypher, who reveals he’d been possessed by Godolkin, and proceeds to spill every dark secret he knows. The ‘Gen V’ finale then centers on the group debating their next move: either run while they can or face the terrifying Godolkin head-on. But come on, this is a violent, gore-filled show, and it’s the finale. We all know which option they’re picking.

“I mean we’re kinda like a cute little… fucked up family. And we stick together,” Emma gives Marie and Cate a little pep talk before things get real fucked up. The gorgeous Jaz Sinclair, as primary protagonist Marie, might deliver all the blood on this show, but Lizze Broadway’s Emma brings the sunshine and smiles, right until the very end.

Marie and her friends, of course, stick around for a brutal showdown with the formidable Godolkin, who, by the way, has powered up just like his trainees and is deadlier than ever. Ethan Slater, stepping in as Cypher for the Gen V finale, picks up right where Hamish Linklater left off, instantly radiating menace. He may not shoot lasers or explode skulls, but his eerily calm and cocky presence keeps you on edge about everyone’s fate. Although I did like Linklater’s version better.

The final half of Gen V Episode 8 is gloriously chaotic, it’s violent, wacky, and occasionally downright gross, delivering the blood-soaked showdown Annabeth’s vision predicted. It’s a mix of teamwork, friendship, and rebellion against corrupt megalomaniacs. Still, much of the closing stretch feels more like a setup for The Boys than a proper payoff for Gen V’s young heroes. Cate, Sam, and Emma deserved more screen time, though at least protagonist Marie finally steps into her full “god-like” potential.

Gen V Finale

I’m usually the first to complain about bloated finales, but this one could’ve actually used a few more minutes, especially since it gives us some really cool cameos. There are glaring story gaps too, like when, why, how, exactly, Sister Sage joined forces with Godolkin/Cypher.

Hopefully, The Boys Season 6 will fill in those blanks. See what’s happened? Even my review has drifted to The Boys! But that’s precisely how the creators end it, with a thrilling cliffhanger that literally drops Marie and her friends onto Homelander’s path. And without spoiling too much, let’s just say those “Jordan is a starlighter” rumors were pretty spot-on foreshadowing.
