Sometimes, you’ve got to take the strangest jobs to keep the lights on. ‘In A Nutshell’ follows a miniature artist working on a peculiar commission: recreating a blood-soaked crime scene for the homicide department. What begins as just another gig soon spirals into a chilling tragedy.
Written and directed by Ryan Valdez, ‘In A Nutshell’ stars Emma as the protagonist, a dedicated miniature artist who accidentally summons a sinister entity through her latest creation.
Emma’s partner worries that all those gruesome crime-scene photos might mess with Emma’s head, little does he know, they’re about to invite something far worse. This is one of those stories where the victims are completely unaware of what they’ve gotten themselves into, unlike the usual horror-movie characters who move into a haunted house because it was a steal, play with an Ouija board, or buy a shady ancient relic already known to be cursed.

At just under eight minutes, the film starts out deceptively normal, a quiet workspace, a focused artist, before pulling the rug out with a simple yet wicked twist. The climax bring the story to a full circle, a classic cliffhanger which hints at the cyclical nature of violence, and well in this film’s case – demonic haunting.
If you’re looking for a quick horror film to watch during a short break between work, ‘In A Nutshell’ would be a good pick.
