So, I just finished a six day trip with my girlfriends to Meghalaya, a state in the north-east of India. This was my second trip to the state and I do not regret visiting it again.

Our Day 1 was kind of ruined by a 5 hour delay in my flight to Guwahati from Kolkata. I even dissed the airlines (SpiceJet) for pretty much ruining my plans for the day on Twitter (to which they tweeted back ‘regreting the delay’; meh). Shillong does not have an airport, so taking a cab from Guwahati is the easiest way to get there.

Since we were three of us, we got a cab for Rs 1900 (26 USD) from Guwahati airport to our resort which was near the Umiam lake in Shillong, a little far off from the main city.

It took us about 3.5 hours to get to our resort which was called Roinam Retreat. The property was gorgeous and had a very pretty pool, so we just spent the evening chilling in the pool.

We had interesting company- a couple that was having their photo-shoot done around the pool. They had three photographers complete with drones. I guess we ruined their background by jumping in the pool, but I am sure we will be photoshopped out.

We had some port wine from Goa with us, so well, dinner was downed with some of that good stuff. We had ordered fish, chilly pork and rice. All of which was ordinary, nothing great. Dinner for 3 cost us just Rs 500 (less than 2.5 USD per person), so not like I am complaining.

That was our day in a nutshell. Would recommend Roinam for anybody that wants to chill in a clam and pretty place. The property has a nice cabin in the woods vibe to it.
