Whoa, who’d have thought that Season 2 of Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions would arrive (on Netflix and CrunchyRoll) so soon? This is a fun, comedic, comfort-watch detective show where an eccentric genius detective, Ron Kamonohashi, teams up with rookie cop Totomaru Isshiki (Toto) to swiftly solve complex murder cases. The anime is based on the manga Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective by Akira Amano, and the protagonist Ron is a descendant of the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes.

If you remember, episode 13 of Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions ended with Ron and Toto discovering that a nefarious criminal organization called the “House of M” was behind the bloody massacre that implicated Ron and led to the revocation of his detective license. “I won’t let them escape. I will bring the House of M out into the light!” vows Ron at the end of Season 1, promising viewers an exciting Season 2. Episode 14 of the anime series thus begins with a grisly murder clearly carried out by the Moriarty family, which Ron and Toto end up investigating.
I absolutely enjoyed episode 14, which brings back the comedic camaraderie between the oddball Ron and the goofball Toto, with Ron always showing up with ridiculous excuses to be at crime scenes so he can slyly help his amateur cop friend crack them. In this opening episode of Season 2, Ron pretends to deliver homemade sweets to his friend Toto and runs into the latter’s boss, Amamiya, who crushes on him. It turns out their latest murder case is a puzzle meant for Ron, with a clue to the next scheduled killing and a deadline that the detective must beat to save the next victim.
For those who haven’t read the manga, this episode packs a pleasant surprise with the cameo of Chicory Monki, the journalist introduced in Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions Episode 10. While Ron has his fan-girl Amamiya, Chicory is Team Toto, believing he is a brilliant cop who can deduce complex clues at the speed of light. She hilariously bumps into Ron and Toto on the street and attempt to help them on the new case.
Pacy, suspenseful, and sprinkled with its usual comedic moments, episode 14 of Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions is a quick, entertaining ride. It ends with a cliffhanger, with the crime-solving duo still working on their latest murder case, where the body count is only rising. Will they stop the next death in time? Definitely start following Season 2 of the anime if you enjoyed the first one.
You can stream the series (Kamonohashi Ron no Kindan Suiri) on Netflix or CrunchyRoll.
