“I am hiding from our children”
The Last House trailer starts with a family getting ready to step out, except they can’t. Their doors are locked, the windows tightly shut, and soon they realize they’re locked in. Even attempts to break through the exits prove futile. They are trapped. In their own house. And so is everybody else. While something freaky starts crawling the streets.
Directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, The Transporter), the dystopian horror film follows a couple, played by Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, as they attempt to survive the terrifying ordeal of being unable to step outside of their home. Noah Alexander Sosnowski and Riley Chung co-star as their children.
The Last House trailer makes it clear that this bizarre situation persists for a frighteningly long time. The family of four must contend with dwindling supplies, find ways to grow food, and somehow survive while a mysterious, possibly extraterrestrial threat lurks outside.
The premise will instantly remind some viewers of horror movies like A Quiet Place or even Bird Box, where strange entities upend everyday life. The difference here is that humans aren’t being hunted out in the open, they’re trapped inside their homes, perhaps being kept as prey. Who knows?!
Either way, the trailer looks intriguing, even though the creators give away a little too much. But they do keep up the intrigue by relying on eerie creature noises, only suggesting something extraterrestrial or perhaps supernatural might’ve taken over the world. What they look like? We don’t know.
The film is set to premiere on Netflix on August 7.
