If you’re craving some spooky laughs this year, Bollywood delivers three horror-comedies with different flavors. From headless ghosts to tree monsters and cursed villages, here’s a fun roundup of the ones to catch on streaming! (Click on the titles for full-fledged spoiler-free reviews)
Stree 2: Comedy Dominates Headless Monster Sequel
The small town of Chanderi faces a new terror in Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank, where a headless ghost now haunts the streets. While Rajkummar Rao and his gang of friends try to save the day, the humor, led by Abhishek Banerjee’s hysterical PTSD-ridden Jana, is the true hero here. Though the CGI ghost lacks the chills and the songs are forgettable, Stree 2 keeps things lighthearted and silly enough to keep you laughing. Don’t expect serious horror, but come for the jokes and the childlike fun of the ride.

Munjya: A Gollum-Like Ghost Hunts for His Precious
Munjya takes us to rural Maharashtra, where a shy protagonist, Bittu, must confront a creepy ancestral spirit on the hunt for his lost love. While it takes its time to find the right balance of horror and comedy, Abhay Verma is likable as the lead, and Mona Singh steals scenes as his fierce mother. The ghost, however, feels like a low-budget Groot with tree acne, more goofy than ghastly. The second half packs some laughs, especially with Sathyaraj’s hilarious exorcist cameo, but the awful VFX keep it from being as scary as it aims to be.

Kakuda: Ghostbusters Bollywood Style
In Kakuda, Sonakshi Sinha and Riteish Deshmukh team up to break a village curse involving a weekly ghostly visit. With its nods to classic horror and funny references, the film leans more toward comedy than spine-tingling terror. Riteish shines as a ghost hunter with his mix of gadgets and old-school exorcisms, and Sonakshi’s no-nonsense Indu adds spunk to the chaos. Though lacking in scares, it serves up plenty of laughs, even if the climax drags a bit. Expect a colorful throwback to old-school horror, with a tongue-in-cheek Bollywood twist.
