Read: Caffeine Diaries – Week 1 Without Coffee (Is Absolute Misery)
Seriously, I didn’t think I would make it to day 30 without coffee, because today, 31st August 2026, finally marks a whole damn month of saying goodbye to it. Time to wrap up ‘Caffeine Diaries’.
And guess what, I have a glass of protein shake beside my keyboard as I type, and earlier in the day my mind did wander to: maybe we should reward ourselves by dunking the ice cream our guests got us yesterday in a huge glass of coffee. Who the hell is ‘we’? Me and my diverging inner voices. That’s how some introverts (like me) stay sane, by splitting their inner voices into friends. And if you’re thinking, “Maybe this person should be in therapy”. Thank you for your kind thoughts. But we’re doing okay.
I wrote in ‘Caffeine Diaries – Week 2‘ about experiencing what felt like withdrawal symptoms – waking up feeling fatigued and depressed. In fact, this Monday, I called up a close friend and whined about not having the motivation to do anything. But it’s got nothing to do with coffee anymore. I don’t even miss it anymore. For my favorite daily beverage, it’s been rather an easy experience giving it up.
A month without coffee, and perhaps my biggest lesson is this: it had zero influence on my writing or my day. If anything, I might’ve been a little bit more creative than usual. Mostly in terms of output – still writing daily articles here and producing a lot more podcast editions than usual. Even though I still can’t get myself to go back to fiction writing, despite dozens of drafts lying around in different folders. An old friend called me after a long time last week and asked me why I haven’t written something after ‘Bad Town Kids‘ and earnestly encouraged me to write my next book. That was sweet.
But okay, back to coffee. Like I wrote in my ‘Caffeine Diaries – Week 3 Without Coffee‘ update, my romance with coffee seems to be officially over. Sometimes, I’ve randomly wondered if half my personality is simply about coffee, like a lot of other writers and readers. Most of their descriptions or self-bios read, ‘loves books, coffee, and .’ Although, I do intend to maintain a casual friendship with coffee, where I catch up with my old self over a cup once in a while.
So that’s the anticlimactic conclusion to this month-long experiment: coffee wasn’t powering anything or hampering anything either (my sleep quality is still very shit). I just really liked drinking it. And maybe that’s reason enough to have a cup once in a while.
Thank you for reading ‘caffeine diaries’. Especially if you’ve been following it since week one.
