Five young ballerinas fighting for their lives in the action-drama ‘Pretty Lethal’ was good old exaggerated entertainment: unrealistic yet fun. And yes, some of us would definitely watch a ‘Pretty Lethal 2’, in-fact we demand there be a sequel, because the ending leaves ample scope for a follow up.

Just in case you haven’t watched the film yet but somehow ended up in this corner of the internet, here’s a quick synopsis: Lana Condor, Maddie Ziegler, Avantika, Millicent Simmonds, and Iris Apatow play a group of American ballerinas whose trip to a dance showcase in Budapest takes a very dark turn when their bus breaks down and they become trapped in a shady hotel filled with dangerous goons. After witnessing a brutal murder, the girls are locked up by mobsters who plan to kill them off, not expecting the ballerinas fight back with everything they have.

Uma Thurman plays Devora Kasimer, one of the story’s primary antagonists, who owns the secluded hotel near Budapest and was once a celebrated prima ballerina herself. The guy who kills someone at the property is a volatile troublemaker and the son of a powerful rival gangster, so Devora naturally wants absolutely no chaos tied to her property. To quietly clean up the mess, she even arranges for an undertaker to dispose of the bodies… you know, once her goons make sure the witnesses, aka the young ballerinas, are dead too. Unfortunately for the gangsters, the girls end up giving the grown men absolute hell.

Now for some spoilers regarding Pretty Lethal’s climax: the ballerinas, of course, manage to defeat the bad guys, emerging battered, bruised, and bloodied. They still make it to their showcase and perform triumphantly in their filthy tutus, bringing the film to a fittingly dramatic close. But it also ends in a way that the creators could definitely bring back the young cast with a sequel, and with MORE DANCING (plus killing too).

Here’s the pitch for Pretty Lethal 2

In the film, Uma Thurman’s character Devora has a long-standing feud with an influential gangster who destroyed her ballet career by damaging her legs. In the climax, Devora rigs the hotel with explosives, planning to blow it up once her enemy arrives on the property. So yes, she almost certainly dies, while the primary group of ballerinas manage to escape. However, we never explicitly see Devora’s sons die, so one can assume they may have survived the hotel explosion.

So here’s what a Pretty Lethal 2 could do: open with the girls (Lana Condor, Maddie Ziegler, Avantika, Millicent Simmonds, and Iris Apatow) thriving as prima ballerinas back home, with plenty of dancing, bickering, and banter in the early scenes, before their lives are thrown into chaos once Devora’s sons come seeking revenge.

And honestly, why wouldn’t they? The girls are indirectly responsible for their mother’s death and the destruction of their hotel, not to mention severely injuring the older brother. That gives the sequel plenty of setup for a revenge-driven story packed with ballet, bloodshed, and stylized action.

The sequel could even unfold on a secluded island, where the girls are invited to perform for some wealthy patron, only to discover it is all an elaborate trap orchestrated by Devora’s sons to lure them onto their own territory. Or something along those lines, maybe a creepy gothic castle, the point is, ‘Pretty Lethal 2’ would need another strikingly isolated setting, much like the “hotel in the middle of nowhere” atmosphere that made the original film intriguing.

That’s our little sequel pitch, because the first Pretty Lethal was quite entertaining and honestly could have been even more fun with a little more dancing and killing.
